Rest Easy, Dear
Lately, when I get into work, I’ve pulled a campfire video up before I get to work. Gosh, is it magic. Give it a try.
As we wander through our own wildernesses, the song "Easy, Dear (The Light)" by Kuinka offers a sweet reminder of maybe how this season of Lent ought to be. Our journey, marked by introspection and purification, finds a mirror in the song's themes—light in the midst of darkness, hope in despair, and the simplicity of love overcoming the complexities of hurt.
Lent is our time to metabolize the junk within: the simmering resentments, the silent battles against backbiting, and the smiling facades that mask deeper schemes.
It's about acknowledging these dark corners so as not to dwell in them.
It's a time to clear the clutter of our hearts, to burn away the deadwood of grudges and grievances, and to let the light in. The song's chorus, a call to the light, echoes the Lenten promise of renewal — even and especially when we don’t see the fruits of our internal and interpersonal labors just yet.
Let us be reminded that the path to renewal is not through adding more to our lives but by stripping away the excess, finding beauty in simplicity, and warmth in the light of love.
Hold a vigil for love over fear. It’s quite enough.
