The Metaphorical Lake Escape
It’s been a long, long week to be a college professor. Days start out the door at 7am and I’m usually back by 9pm. There are some blank, blessed spaces throughout the day, but the wear and tear is real, especially given some meetings that have spiked my heart rate a few times.
My body woke me up at 2:43am today. Do I have to buy a car? What will today’s meeting be like? How much longer until I hear about a thing? Gosh, it would be nice to get some reading done.
Instead, I took my dog outside, fed her, drank coffee, and ate crackers my wife baked two nights ago.
So much is begging to be fixed in our world. I’m wired to save a lot of it. I’ve learned in recent years that if you set out to be a savior, you’re asking to be crucified. Sometimes, you just need a quick jaunt out on a lake to get away from the masses. Peace, be still.
