The Next Big Thing
Hi all,
This one is a bit less formal than most of my past entries. I’m coming straight to you from my desk as I contemplate “Summer Break,” that thing that everyone who doesn’t work in higher ed thinks those cushy professor jobs have. I think I’ve been able to string together a couple of days that haven’t been invaded by something else. As I head into the weekend, I’ll hopefully string a few more things together before break ends and The Next Big Thing begins.
What is the next big thing? I’m going to divinity school! In California! Several of you who’ve followed me here or on social media know that over the winter, I became a Postulant for Holy Orders (Priesthood) in the Episcopal Church. While I continue on the discernment and formation path, I’m excited to get going in a formal way starting June 1.
I expect I’ll be writing with some more frequency in the coming weeks. You’ll have noticed I write here seasonally — Advent and Lent were almost daily — and I’ll be back to a season of that (perhaps less than daily) soon. These seasons have a way of cracking things open that I think are worthy of sharing.
As I contemplate a cross-continental plane ride, a couple weeks of seminary intensive, and a few days of retreat, I’m hopeful you’ll stay here with me, write me as you see things from me you find useful, puzzling, or worthy of a question. I hope you’ll keep me in your hearts and minds and prayers and thoughts and whatever it is you do to express intention.
Graduate pursuits, books, travel, an alb (what’s an alb, you ask?)… it’s a lot. If you’d like to support my ongoing work, I very much invite you to become a paid subscriber of Controlled Burn (with a discount below!), or you can always contact me directly if you’d prefer to support via another method. My email is controlledburn@jeremyfiebig.com.
Thanks so much for reading, for hanging out with me over the last year, and for your support of the work ahead.
Love is the strongest choice,
Jeremy
